Yeah, your fine. The lever that enacts the parking pawl has a spring loaded "bullet" on the end of it. When you moved yours the parking pawl "popped" out of the locked position and allowed it to move. Your ok.

Frank's transfer case is doing some weird stuff. He's gonna double check the out put shaft length. Should be 5/8" past the adaptor.
What's happening is that his transfer case is under some kind of weird load. When he takes the bolts out of the halves of the transfer case, it litterally pushes apart about 1/4". He has to basically "press" the case halves back together with the bolts around the T-case. I've never had one press itself apart like that. If anyone has any ideas please let us know.

To everyone, I'm really sorry. I've got a forum for this stuff but we're kinda out here since the question came in out here. The pics are big so Frank can see the stuff better and I apologize for load times for everyone else trying to look at it.

Just an FYI, you can make the images thumbs if you want to keep them small and still have the ability to click on the full size image.

To get the format, just click quote as if your replying to the post and you can get the format for making these.

Now I am worried. Remember I said my TC started to leak after I installed the 80e. I tightened the bolts and it stopped. Now I am thinking mine to was putting pressure on the 1/2's. If I losen them they should not come appart?? Mine moves but takes efffort. I realy have to dig in to get the truck to move.

Re: 4l80e Help

This may not be Frank's issue. It was a guess by me trying to help him. It could be though just don't know yet.
Gary, if you want to double check yours, remove the transfer case and with both adaptors on, lay a ruler across the stock transfer case adaptor surface. The output shaft should extend 5/8" beyond the surface. If yours goes past that, just take a cutoff wheel and trim it down so it sticks out 5/8".

I will wait and see what frank has. If his is long then there is a chance mine is too.

Here's how you measure that dimension.
Gary, do you remember who you bought that shaft and plate from?
PM me if you can think of who it was.

Re: 4l80e Help

George, Ive been trying to get the transfer case off without having to remove the trans its self because of the clearance issuse with solid motor mounts. Im not having an easy time to say the least, However i was able to remove the bolts that hold the trans to transfer case adapter i think theres 7 bolts. The gap opened up 1/4 inch as the bolts loosened. Once i removed the bolts all the way out the trans will spin, the tranfer case will spin, both propshaft and the rear drive shaft will spin. So im guessing the shaft is to long!! (And Im going to kill you) I was too busy today to drop the hole transmission, but ill be getting some help tommorow and getting it out all the way. I will measure it and post a pick with a ruler for all to see what a dick you are!!!! I'll bet this is the first time sombody told you you shaft was to long!! Enjoy the play on words!!!!!! Peace out.

George hes a nice guy thats why hes going to send us some of the 6 k we spent on the 4l80e that dont fit!! Right George!!! HAHA In all seriousness It was his idea to check the output shaft lenth for the problem. Those install instructions might want to mention that 5/8z thing next time. ops! Im just tired of puting in and taking it out so many times but hopefully all this information will help others in the future!!!

Re: 4l80e Help

remember I am doing this alone. Try dropping the trans by yourself. I wont do it. droped the 700 and installed the 80 by myself! **** If I have to do that again. I will sell the truck the way it is first or destroy it and collect insurance. I am done messing with it.

Re: 4l80e Help

From now on, I'll double check all of them. I'm more than a little upset this happened. I've done a bunch and this is the first time this has happened. Gary's was sent in from somewhere else but I still need to check all of them from now on. Frank, have you still got that servo out? I want send you something for that while you've got it apart.
