WTB: Manual Transmission

Dong a custom project with a friend and we need to source a M/T to go behind a mild N/A 4.3 build (probably 250hp/300tq). Don't really need anything too stout or cutting edge, so we were thinking of a T-5 (WC) or NV3500.

Anybody got one lying around they're tired of stepping over?
Any advice on which to go with or which will be the easiest/cheapest to fix/maintain?

My gut says T-5, due to popularity, but I'm clueless on manuals. I know someone is thinking to go ahead and go with a T-56, but we don't need a 6 speed, and I figured we could source a 5 speed cheaper (this is a budget built toy that won't be daily driven).

If you Do go with a t-56 you will need to move to a 373 rear end. Ask me How I know :).

the t-5 is a good option. definitely go for the world class. i've heard of mustangs in the 10's with a stock t-5 wc.

just pickup any bellhousing (84+ f-body would be good since they came with t-5's and they are light) and throw in a hydraulic throwout bearing.

Re: WTB: Manual Transmission

forgot to add, with the 84+ bellhousing, they came with a hydraulic actuated clutch fork so that is an option as well but only if you can get the fork with the bellhousing (they are not easy to find). if you want to jump straight to the hydraulic throwout, you could hack that bracket off.

They still ask crazy money for the T56. I have seen them for sale for 1900 bucks, with accessories. I have two of them, should probably sell the spare one. Probably won't.

Re: WTB: Manual Transmission

Although the t5 is light and easy to acquire I'm gonna say that a T5 isn't going to handle the torque of these trucks driven with any type balls.

If your not going to have much into the swap then give it a try but I'd pony up for the t56 conversion and move on to the next area on thE tru k to achieve your goal.

Oh and the t56 is costly to repair

Like I mentioned in the original post, this IS NOT a SyTy engine....just a mild N/A 4.3 build in a 2WD platform.
