Hi guys. Here is my problem. I just had a new turbo put on the ty. Its an atr. I also have a atr wastegate with it and dp. The other new item is a walker 3" cat and atr exhaust. My problem is that when i am stopped at the line i cannot build boost past zero. When i drive the truck the wastegate seems to work fine. I can build 18lbs cruzin. I thought that maybe because the gaskets on the old dp setup were leaking that this might have caused the problem. So now that everything is new and there are no leaks i figured maybe it would work. No luck. What could be wrong?

i think stock. the guy i bought it from did not mention anything. The only thing we did notice was that the truck shifts at stock points but you can tell it has more. What we then did was keep it in 2nd and manually shifted at 5000 and it pulled hard all the way there. i think that maybe there might be a cam in this thing too. What do you think? is there a way to tell? But anyway the answer to you r question is ????

What turbo?
What RPM are you at when you are at the line trying to build boost?
Do you have a scan tool yet? If you answer no to this, stop driving your truck until you have one. Send me your keys to make sure you don't.

ok let me get this straight you have an aftermarket boost gague but you dont look at it. WRONG.....the stock gauge is totally worthless. dont look at it anymore. cover it if you have too. and more than likly you have a stock converter. so when you trying to power brake and launch what RPM's can you get it up to? if its only 15-1800 then you'll need more...A new converter is in order for you.

my problem might be that when i powerbrake it i can't hold the truck. The ty has new brakes and i still can't hold it. As far as the rpm's go i will look.

you are doing the Todd A lauch I am assumeing. the teachnique includes reving the engine in "N" while holding firm on the brake and the pedal should sink when the RPM's fall down this should allow you to hold the truck back a little more...

No, i actually was just holding the brake and gas. Should i do it that way? Alos when the truck was at the exhaust shop yesterday the mechanic said he poked around the truck with a stethescope and the result was that my plenum is leaking around the base and there is some type of vacuum leak. he did not go any further than that.

All good advice here bro, get yourself a Scan tool, with a bigger turbo etc a lot has changed, I had a very similar set up to you, I had a TE62e turbo, except I had DFI. Ignore that crap stock boost gauge, get that vacuum leak fixed as it can and will throw everything off. Yes you should launch as JWaller describes, revving the motor creates vacuum which will assist the brakes and you will be able to hold on longer. Stock convertor stalls to 2,200-2,300 and may flash to 2,500 if you're making some decent power. A nice 9/11 convertor that will stall to 3,000 would help but I'd try the Todd A. manuveur first before running out and buying a new torque convertor.

I am going to get the scan tool. i have the datamaster. i just need the cable. Anyway in the section of syty.org it has a list of what to look for and do when buying a syty. The page says to hold the brake and then hit the gas and you should be able to go positive 3-5lbs. Is this rule of thumb true only with stock turbo's? Maybe then i don't really have a problem?

It is the generic term for an interface to your cars computer. It is able to pull trouble codes related to "check engine soon" lights, and more importantly it allows you to monitor the sensors and engine computer operation. It comes in many forms from the Tech tool that the service manual and GM refer to, to handheld devices like an Autoxray (this is what I use, and admit it is not the best solution but still very good), to a cable and laptop with engine manament software like Datamaster.

Some of the most useful information related to Syty is O2 sensor readings (tells how rich or lean your running), igniton timing advance, knck detection and related timing retard.

If your gonna buy one and have a laptop, that is the way to go IMO

The DataMaster software on a laptop is the best way to go in my opinion.. I wouldn't waste time with anything else, it's not cost effective. Here is an example snapshot image of what my DataMaster window looks like, taking a look at a small run I did. Look at all that information available to you!!
