Valve Stem Seals?

What brand and type of valve stem seals are you using with either the L35 heads or the Vortec heads? Any recommendations for the valve guides for the aforementioned heads? Will the stock GM valve seals work with 2.02/1.60 valves and the L35 heads?

The seals can be made out of nitrile, polyacrylate, fluoroelastomer, silicone, nylon, or Teflon. There are two basic types: umbrella seals and positive seals.

I just got my valve seals and valve guides replaced, now all my spark plugs are dripping with oil after 50 miles. I think the shop used the wrong type.

bro forget all polyacrylat,nbr,teflon etc.
all these are shit.
use VITON seals everywhere.
this is my job,i sell gaskets and seals for cars and trucks and i know better
good luck ,at your 50k miles you will need valves and guides (maybe sooner)

Richard,

I have used umbrella's with success....

That is what I have on camaro, seems to be holding up fine... got more than 50miles also...

I sure hope you don't buy lotto tickets, because you luck is not the good kind...

teflon is the one that was used here in europe 10 years ago on renault 850cc-1600cc
it is a very good sealand but it is not elastic.good for up to 180 deg.C
the "plastic" ombrelas are made of nbr or nylon, that is 120*C and 140-160*C
VITON is good up to 300*C
factories dont use always viton because its expencive and we all know that they keep trying to have a low cost.
a turbo car has the double temp there and it needs quality

keep WOTing

even with the worst type and brand of seals your guides should not leak like that. there are a number of things that could be wrong, poor machine work, o-ring seals installed. these are junk and should never be used. they also split if not installed right. the best thing to do at this point is to pull a couple of springs and see just what seals you have in there. after you get the springs off see if you can move the valve stem back and fourth. it is very unlikely that you can move it but would show if there was a guide issue. let us know what you find.

I thought KB sold them? (viton seals)
Something like $32 for the set.

One of the only things I'd buy from 'em.
