Value Covers for vortec heads

Stock will fit, but better yet are the valve covers for the Vortec heads... slick looking plastic design with integral gasket, and they are cheap.

Thanks for the reply...I was going to pick up a set of polished Edelbrocks, but they said the only fit up through 1993. If our stock covers fit the new vortecs wouldn't the earlier aftermarket ones fit also??
Does anyone know if the Edelbrock's fit.

I've seen 'em on a few trucks, so I'm sure they fit ok.

I think 4CEFED has some pics on his site...

Yup...he does:

They do look nice, don't they.
To bad you can hardly see them now with everything in place.

The only clearance issue I could see, mind you I haven't cranked the engine over yet, is that the baffles for the breather holes will rub on the rockers.
The baffles are a U shaped piece of sheet metal that prevent a straight shot in & out of the breather holes. I installed my baffles at first and found that I couldn't get the covers all the way down, so then I removed them and they went on OK.

I guess the real test will be when I'm ready to crank it over next month.

you don't want to use stock plastic vortec valve covers with the Kenne Bell Exhaust manifolds. It WILL melt it. Well after 1500 miles on my motor, it was melting the surface of the valve cover, about to become a HOLE!!!

Oh well, I put the stock covers on.

There are some chrome ones on ebay occasionaly, starting out about $45. I saw the same ones on a web-site for $29. They look just like the stock ones, except chrome... more stuff to polish that you can't get to...

So, it appears that U should stay w the stock steel covers. So, what do we do if we go w Roller Rockers - sy w a 1.6-1.65 Ratio ?

stay with the stock steel covers. the only way a stock cover wont fit is if you use guide plates....they will still fit with the guide plates you just have to trim the webbing inside.

I tried the Edelbrock Elite cast aluminum covers, and they don't quite fit on L35 heads with Crane roller rockers. The covers will go on, but the pushrod end of the rockers will rub on the cover. Since I didn't feel like grinding the covers, I sent 'em back.
However, the Edelbrock covers should fit just fine over stock rockers on stock or L35 heads.
