Typhoon reliability questions

I am looking at a 92 Typhoon and just need some advise on things to lok for or watch out for.

as the original owner of a '93 phoon with 17k
miles the engine (long block) was replaced
at 3,5k miles. otherwise no problems altho
many posts indicate that these cars are on
the ragged edge of reliability. i do not race the car or drive it to the utmost. service and accessibility are not good mainly because everything is crammed into the engine compartment and unless the dealer or repairshop is familiar with the sy/ty's
they will have no idea what is the proper service procedure. if you do the work your-
self reserve a lot of time and send your wife/girlfriend/children away because there
may be a lot of cussing going on. otherwise
it is a great ride and still the fastest stock factory suv in the world. john.

I agree with what both of these gentlemen have suggested. The only thing I would add is to say that nothing beats having an experienced SyTy owner go with you to check out the truck, they will know what type of things stick out as problems better than anyone.

I am really thinking about getting a Ty also. My intentions are just to have it as a daily driver, not mod it. If I don't beat on it, and don't take it to the track all the time; maybe the occasional race from a light do you think this would be a good truck to own. Or do you think I am going to get myself into a whole mess of things.
How do I know if I have found a good Ty.
Or should I just stick with my mustang

well, are you gonna get rid of the Stang for a Ty? I would probably not advise that on just, "I want a cool fast SUV." If you are truely interested in a Ty and like its performance as well as it history and rarity, then I say go for it. You are going to sacrifice a little bit in time, sweat, and money as compared to a Stang thats 5 years newer.
SyTys can be made into very reliable vehicles, with the right owner. Doing proper ignition, fuel, and regular vehicle work usually results in a fairly trustworth vehicle.
I myself have been left stranded a few times, but oh well, shit happens.
If you do get one, listen to what people have to say, and dont always go with what the first person tells you to do.

LOL, thanks for the help. I have two mustangs, the one I am going to sell is a 1990 Gt convertible. I have had it 5 years and not a single problem ever, it only has 87k on it. I am a little worried about getting rid of it, and getting in over my head

the syty's may be the automotive equivalent
of prozac or valium. driving one will make
you feel great provided it runs the way it is
supposed to. unfortunately they don't always
perform that way. also i believe these cars
are not daily drivers just like you should
not take prozac/valium every day. john.
