TV cable and transmission problem

So I go out last night to adjust my tv cable since the truck has been set to shift early and right after i gave the line a little slack the transmission seemed to be slipping between gears. It wasnt until right after this that it started. So I adjusted the cable as close to where it was in the first place and still same issue. Heres a few examples of what its doing:

On a 50mph punch it will down shift to 3rd ? and go up to 3k rpm give or take but not hardly move, only held it for a couple seconds.

Sometimes, on say a 30mph punch it will accelerate but stay around 3k rpm

Will never slip and go much past 3k rpm and has not once pegged the tach

If I manually pull the truck down into 1st 2nd or 3rd and hit it, it will take off like it should and not slip.

I went up to Plano Transmission and let the owner Jeff mcleod who has had 2 syclones and worked on a handful of them look at the truck and throw his opinion in. He said the trans isnt bad because the fluid doesnt smell cooked and if it was the clutch packs goin out it would be apparent by the rotten egg smell and color. We took it out for a drive and he said it doesnt seem like its goin bad but that the tv cable is most likely the cause for it. He was thinking that having a different generic brand cable could change the geometry how far the cable is pulled when the throttle cam is turned. Also stated that if the transmission was slipping it would peg the tach and not hang around 3k rpm or so.

The tv cable that is on it is not a factory but I have adjusted it every which way to try to stop the in between gear slipping but no luck. The next thing jeff said could be fixed was adjusting the governer setup up after correcting the cable.

Im just trying to think of what would be else could be causing this in between gear slippage. I do know that if the packs were bad it would peg the tach. I believe what Jeff is telling me as he is very well known and reputable around here but something is telling me this problem is not that simple. I keep thinking the trans needs a rebuild but stumped.

Has anybody every heard of a tv cable or mistadjusted governer causing a slip in or out of the gears?

Only other thing I can think of is the torque converter but doubt it

If anybody has had this happen before or knows what might be goin on with it I would appreciate your thoughts on it

Re: TV cable and transmission problem

Well that was a quick solution, just went out and drove it and now 3rd and 4th gear slip soo much it wont move in either. I guess its time for a rebuild, knew that damn tv cable wasnt the cause. Now whos got a trans for sale?
