Truck Doesnt move

I recently aquired a 1992 typhoon and all has been well with the truck until today. I was driving on the highway doing about 65 when all of a sudden I noticed the rpms jump I let off the gas they went down but when I gave it gas again rpms jumped and the truck did not pickup at all. So I pulled over and the truck wouldn't move at all. I did not hear any noise when this happened, no vibrations, and prior to this the truck seemed to shift fine, as this being my first I dont know how hard or soft they shift. But anyway now when the truck is running you can hear a sort of clicking noise almost like th converter bolts sheared off and the flywheel is rubbing the ends. I haven't pulled the cover yet but everything else looks ok. Any help or insight would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

What does your tranny fluid look or smell like? It should be a pink or red color when on a whit paper or towel. Do you have any forward movement? What about reverse? Pull the cover and get back to us with details of fluid and convertor bolts.

no forward or reverse, I will be pulling the cover in a little bit as long as the rain holds out and I will let you know what I find. As far as the fluid goes it is pink and smells fine.

checked out the torque converter bolts and they are fine. Guess I am going to be doing a trans rebuild. The only thing I notice is a clicking sound while the truck is idleing. Any ideas before I rip this thing apart.

you broke some hard parts in the tranny. i've done that before.

My guess is that you broke the low roller sprag assembly or the sun gear shell(sun gear shells go a LOT in the 700s). You'll probably end up replacing a few things down in the case. Inspect everything for gouges and cracks. Check both front and rear planetaries REAL GOOD. Make sure the washers still move freely and the gears don't have excessive play or worn/broken teeth(doesn't sound good). Have the case hot tanked and all your tranny lines and cooler flushed. You'll want to replace the TC. It will have metal inside it from the metal parts that broke up. You don't want them getting spit out at an inopportune time in a fresh built tranny.

Thank for all the advice guys. Anyone ever get a transmission from bowtie overdrives I have been looking at places to get a new trans. I have done a search and checked all the places most of the people here use have not come across this one just wonderinf TIA

Just make sure they use at least a corvette servo. Make sure it is setup for 4x4 so your transfer case will still bolt up. See if they put the oversize 2-4 band in it.
As long as the specs and clearances are correct, you shouldn't have a problem. If they use a servo that is too small, a relined band, or a '87 and prior tranny core, it won't last long at all. Keep your stock one just for safe keeping. Trannies are small. Shouldn't take up too much room.
