transmission ?

What are some things that can be done to prevent the transmission to go out. For a while I may be having a Typhoon as a daily and I wanted to take some prevention methods. If I do get it, a daily will be coming soon tho. Just wondered if like a trans temp, or any other tranny mods are worth the time ahead of time.

I would add a remote trans filter before the cooler as well.

Don't launch at every traffic light like I did with Sy #0070.
First Tranny went after 22k of that shit.
Launch for money races and record-setting timeslips.

Didn't Peter H. run his into the 11's with very aggresive oil changes and limited -repeat- (i.e. hot lapping) track abuse?

tape an egg to the gas pedal and you'll be alright for a while.;)

seriously though, just don't drive it hard much and change fluid and filter frequently.

get a good one and not some little sucker. a temp guage and remote filter that fits in the engine compartment are a great idea. can get em as a package from summit or somewhere like it. good synthetic fluid is a good idea. everyone knows i don't like mobil1 fluid.

also... don't beat the hell out of it all the time, especially when it starts gettin hot, and it's surprising how much longer they live...:)

leave the engine stock

worked fine for me. added more power, and boom goes the transmission.. a few times

ya i plan on leaving it stock, i want to have some fun with it but dont plan on abusing it too hard, especially when its hot

get a big cooler, drive it around in "D" not "OD". keep it cool and clean fluid.

BIG COOLER suggestions? Brand / p/n. I always have mine in D until say 45 MPH.

get the largest one B&M makes, it's a 28,000lb race cooler and has 1/2 npt fittings. thats the only one I reccommend anybody use.

To the best of my knowledge he actually made a high 10 second pass or two, on the stock transmission. :D IMO the stock transmission is likely the best and most reliable transmission your truck will ever see. I realize that changes once you get into the 11s or further. But I got about 3000 quarter mile runs on my stock tranny and a local friend of mine got about the same amount before it failed. We both had built ones done and he's on his 4th or so and mine still isn't even working right.

driving in "D" applies the overrun clutchs and helps hold the forward sprag in every gear. it also adds line pressure in the lower gears to boost holding power. it will also keep it from cycling between 3 and 4 at 40mph while crusing.
