Re: Transmission temp manifold install

i bought the rpm tranny line kit and some adapters and put it inline on the out line of the tranny

Re: Transmission temp manifold install

i think you have to cut the line and put a flare connector on it...i reccommend doing the tranny lines and a cooler.....this way its all done in one shot

And/or get the external filter which I believe has a spot for a temp sensor built in. I don't know for sure I'm not cool enough to get one.

Re: Transmission temp manifold install

I have a cooler in the box ready to throw on there. Where is the tranny line that FIRST goes into the radiator(so i get the hottest temps)?

Im going to set the tranny cooler up like this -

Im more curious as to where some people have mounted this manifold. Thanks for the quick replys.

Do you have pictures of this?? I have RPM tanny line kit and was I thinking of doing the same thing.

Re: Transmission temp manifold install

The line that connects to the bottom of the radiator will give you the highest temperatures that the transmission "sees". I have a remote transmission filter and transmission temperature sensor connected to that line as a result:

"Summit remote transmission filter part #SUM-G4980. Filter is upstream of all coolers mounted where the stock battery tray was. Temperature sender is between the lines. NOTE: this part NO LONGER has provision for a temperature sender from Summit."

Re: Transmission temp manifold install

I was talking to my neighbor about this last night, and he made some interesting points about where i should mount it. He said that the hot line coming out of the transmission shoild go to the auxillart cooler FIRST, since that would do the most work and take load of the radiator cooler. It would then go to the radiator cooler where it would be heated up(if necessary) or further cooled so that the ATF going back in was good (around 180*). It made sense because if it was put the other way then the ATF might go back to the tranmission too cold.

Also he suggested i put it on the return line to make sure that i was getting the right temp fluid going back in, as opposed to reading it when it left the tranmission. I wasnt too sure about this though.

The reason i bring this up is because i wasnt shure how it flowed on this diagram.

Is this how most people are running theres? (i.e. aux cooler first out of hot transmission line)

Any and all input is appreciated.

Re: Transmission temp manifold install

me personaly would go thru the stock cooler first then the aux cooler, no reason to cool the fluid then send it thru the hottest point of the cooling system. Maybe im wrong here. I also have an autometer trans temp manifold if anyone needs one, opened but never used.

I wouldn't and didn't do it that way, do it this way,

With a 700R4 and this setup you wont get it too cold.

That is the proven cooling circuit for these trucks. The cooler that occupies the same space as the engine coolant severs to cool the ATF somewhat before going to the auxiliary cooler. Having that cooler last in the chain will result in the coolest ATF going back to the transmission since it cools nothing else.

Yes, monitoring your transmission temperatures AFTER cooling will tell you how well your cooler(s) are working but not how hot your transmission is OPERATING at. If your transmission is at over 240 degrees plus melting down just inches away from you, knowing what temperature the ATF is going back to it is of little value...

Your neighbor has the right idea but, I don't think he is aware how much torque these trucks make. Install *just* the transmission temperature manifold with a gauge and do two boosted launches in less than a minute and watch the temperatures peg your gauge. Then spend the next half hour driving around trying to get it back down to a sane temperature. Folks who install transmission temperture gauges are ALWAYS surprised to see how much heat gets generated and how long it takes to dissipate afterwards.
