Sort of, it's a balancing act between the TV cable and the governer. The governer causes the shifts as a result of centrifigul force, this depends on vehicle speed. The TV raises pressure according to how much the throttle is depressed, and tries to keep the governer from causing a shift. When you get going fast enough the governer overcomes the pressure and you get the shift. Ultimately the governer weights and springs determine the shift points, but you can change it a little with the TV cable.

neither. line pressure, shift rpm and speed is controlled by the TV cable.

Well.. since pretty much all non-electronic shift transmissions have a governor, I figured that was obvious.

well my truck seems to not shift from 1st gear ever..so i dropped the pan and found dark, thin fluid. i looked through the records and didnt see any history if tranny service in 92k miles. i replaced the filter and chanced the fluid but that didnt work either. i suppose i can get a rebuild kit from b&m.

I go for a good build over a good deal any day.

Why go cheap this time around? So you can do it all over again in a few months, eventually spending the same amount or more on another rebuild?

B&M kit will get you 6 months and another post in this area in 6 months asking which kit to get for the 2d rebuild.

so, where is this governor located? i went to a local trans shop and they say that the problem is most likely the governor.

the governor is on the drivers side above the poopshaft. it's a black(rusted) metal cover that has to nearly be destroyed if removing it from the truck with trans installed. good idea to get a new one. but it's under that cover. friction holds it in.

PS B&M is just borg warner (stock stuff) relabled...

it just went last tuesday nite. yes it did blow up the 1st time the same day as the towers in NY!

There are threads about my tranz and the group purchase that are current right now. not hard to find them.

Ed, I understood. I was just simply saying to anyone that this is just a good start. I didn't intend that post directly at out. The GP that George is doing contains very similar things as the kit I posted before, Kevlar this Kolene that. Georges GP is def a better complete package. The kit above is just seals gaskets steels and frictions. Later
