Transmission in syclone

I will be a proud new owner of a 91 syclone in a week, thats when i pick it up. the truck has aftermarket rods, valves, pistons, kenny bell IC & Intake, fuel pump, FPR, datamaster, and some gauges:)

i am a concerned about the transmission. i had a 99 impreza AWD before this and i ended up spending about 3k to replace a few gears and synchros and put in new clutch and flywheel. obvisouly i dont want to spend that again. and i know how hard AWD Launches can be on a transmission let alone with 400 lbs of torque. i have noticed that quite a few people are running 12's and below in the 1/4. with the stock transmission. What are you guys doing to baby the tranny? the stock transmission is a 700 right, i have heard of a 400, whats that?

do i want the truck to launch a get a good grip or can the stock transmission not take this kind of abuse?

what i am looking for is what kind of tires would u guys recommend?
and what can i do to prevent any damage to the trans or at least last as long as possible?
i appreciate your advice.

just a 6

Have a good extra trans cooler and change fluid often, a lot of power braking to 12-15psi boost kills trans quick.

Some last some don't.
Cooler is better.
You will break it at some point though if you drive it hard. A well built 700 will stay together if you find someone who knows what they are doing.

They won't however stay in one piece forever. After so much abuse most will break.
