transfercase Question about 4wd feeling

i am almost completly done with my truck, and i only have 1 big problem to work on.
truck has 42k miles. but i have the feeling my transfercase is ****ed. vclutch is locked.

on tight turnings, (as far as you can call them tight with wheels stops and 275's up front) it feels like an 4WD instead of AWD and the tire were on the edges on the font of the tires is terrible.

it feels like if you turn real sharp. and drive, the left wheel turns slower (smaller ratio circle) and the right one has to rotate more, and than after every turn my wheels make you can feel it humping, like the diefferential upfront can't fix the rotations different towards the transfercase.

is there a fluid i can poor in the TC so it might get back to life? the truck has never been young owned and not 2wd driven. could it be bad maintanance? or should i swap the transfercse out with the astro one i have laying around?

but the vc is high $$ right>? picked up a spare astro case for $250

yeah i think i have a good used v/c,just check it before you put it in

what is the way to check it if the vc is still in there?

Pull the prop and see if it still does it. If it does it's the rear end that is locked up (can feel kinda like a 4x4). If it turns smooth and free then the vc is most likely bad. I think if it was a 4x4 tc there would be shift linkage lever somewhere on it, or some one put it hi-lock before puting it in the tc (don't seem likely). :2cents:

some might say you can not test it,but me and pat (SLOGN) from what we have found think this is a pretty good way to check them,Again this is what I have used a few times as a method and it worked for me

buy with that method you need to take out the TC, right? is it possible too take out propshaft, and apply the torque wrench on the outgoing shaft on the VC and lock the rear?

yes put it on the rear yoke and propshaft,counterclockwise on the yoke,clockwise on the prop yoke
