The plugs to drain and fill the transfer case are on side that faces the rear of the truck. You will need a 3/8" drive ratchet with an extension to remove the fill plug as it is in between two flanges on the housing. Just take out the top one and then take out the bottom one and have your drain pan ready. After it is drained, apply Loctite 518 thread sealant or equivalent and reinstall the bottom plug. Then fill the case through the top hole with 1.5 quarts of Automactic Transmission Fluid. It is recommended to get one of those deals from the parts store that screws on top of the ATF and has a vinyl hose on it. This will make filling the case MUCH easier. Fill the case until the tranny fluid starts coming out of the bottom of the hole. Apply thread sealant to the fill plug as well screw it back into the case and you're done. HTH

Actually, it is more fun when it is real hot, especially if the fluid splaches on you... Also drain the fluid through a paint strainer and look for things that don't belong....Brass, steel, aluminum..ect.

Was looking for info on changing transfer case fluid and found it in the last thread of my search (#167 of 167), a post from 2002! I believe you can find almost anything on this site if you search hard enough.
