The 700 can be repaired several times for the cost of the 80 conversion. Most guys on this board can't afford to put gas in their truck, much less a 5-7K transmission conversion. the 700 works fine at reasonable street power levels, for reasonable repair expense.
The 80 conversion isn't all it's cracked up to be, either. All the peeps I see here that have done it have had major, EXPENSIVE issues. I believe they have ALL broken. The 80 conversion is another exotic, EXPENSIVE, "feel good" mod of dubious benefit that brings in a whole new set of problems, issues, and ways to spend tons of money. Ask Jeff Scott. And he can machine his own output shafts.
And this is all IF the conversion is ever completed in the first place. BTW, how's yours running?
Sorry. I'm just tired of the constant 80-talk as a 7,000 dollar cure for a 1,000 dollar transmission problem. And there will still be major problems.
