Trans temps

So I have read a lot of post and never heard of an issue like mine.

When I drive around in the city I will get temps in the 150-180 range and when I am on the highway they will climb to 190ish. I dont know if this is because my coupler is starting to go or what.. but my temps have always being up there.

I just did a whole cooling system on the truck and there was a cooler on it before running thru the radiator...

Any ideas?

Is your torque converter locking up? If not that will generate more heat due to slippage.

Torque converter is locking up.. Actually since you brought that up.. i can add that it unlocks like on a hill climb my temps go down..but when it locks up they go back up again..

Also if i am doing like 65 mph the temp will be lower than if i am doing 75 mph..

I was getting no more than mid to high 170's in my 80e around town . Highway driving was high 160's iirc . This is with a large front cooler and not run through the radiator . It also was cooler weather back when i was actually driving this beast .lol

yeah the sender is in the remote oil filter mounted under the battery. Since i havent taken the fender off to make sure to see exactly how the lines are routed to tell what the sender is picking up as temp then i wont know.

And I am sure of them temps rising when locked and dropping when unlocked. I took the truck up to northern arizona from 1800 feet elevation to 6000 feet.. so plenty of hills. I got to watch this a lot of times along with coasting maing the tranny temps go up as well.

Ill have to try and move the sender to the pan and put a fan on the cooler and see what happens.

I think your going to have higher temps in every aspect. I just moved from Havasu and when the ambient temp is 125, your fluids are not going to cool off. Just sitting in the driveway not being driven thay are already at 125 or more!

Even in the cooler weather, like 85, it's going to run a little hotter than say where I am now in Seattle area. If your worried about temps, I would go with a 80e trans. Something that has been designed to handle the heat.

I lived in Havasu for 8 years, and the only reason I didnt buy another Sy was because I knew it would hate the heat......
