I am looking for an exact location to install this sender in this pan .Left , right , or up some .This was a spare pan also , so dond mind the stray marks in the pic .

I ended up getting a trans drain pan kit since that is bolt on and I could do myself . The sender was the same size as the plug .

Where is the best out of the way spot ? The nut on the inside is a half inch and I dont want to put it where it will hit some transmission part . I dont know trannys and I searched but couldnt find any location directions typed out .

Waller , Blake , or somebody ....

Re: Trans temp sender pan location ?

For an accurate reading it should be placed in the outlet line from the tranny. Using a temp manifold is easiest. check out this thread, #4 post. It comes with compression fittings for use with the stock steel line. http://www.syty.net/forums/showthread.php?t=11264

yep, but if you are dead set on placing it in the pan, my only recommendation would be to put in the back of the pan, that way no road debris can come up and rip if off the sides or smack into it on the front, although the inspection cover should provide enough protection. :2cents:

but yes, I have mine inline just before the cooler in a custom T-fitting

The permacool trans filter kit that uses the screw on filter has a port on the filter mount that is specifically for a temp sensor. The autometer sensor fits it perfectly.

Just another option, as the filter kit is a recommended mod as well.

Re: Trans temp sender pan location ?

I have a trans filter kit I bought from jegs but it didnt have the extra hole for my sender . I bought the ss braided line kit from RPM and dont know what option I have other than the pan . Lines go from trans to radiator to cooler to filter back to tranny .

Is there a secret 6-an fitting that I can screw the sender into ? I thought i saw a extra hole on the jegs site when I purchased the filter , but apparently I got the bait'n'switch . Thanks .

Mr. King I may be opening a can of worms here but I will throw this at you anyway as an "IMO".
I know the the threads and the explaination behind mounting the temp. sensor in the line the feeds the cooler and I do agree that if you want to know what the temp of the trans. fluid on the "out side is that this is correct. I mount the sensor in the return line from the cooler back to the trans. or at least in the pan because I want to know what the temp. of the fluid is after it has been through the system.
This tells me several things that the other mounting configureration will not, 1. Is my cooler setup adequate for the requirments of THIS INSTALL (size of cooler, mounting location / air flow etc.) as differences from truck to truck will make a difference. 2. How hot is the fluid when it is being recycled back into the trans?

This tells me if changes need to be made to make all "square with the world" and keep the fluid in the recomended 160-200 range and I shoot for 180 in our installs. Placing the sensor in the pan is going to read a higher temp than in the return line due to case heat, direct internal oil drain back inside the trans. etc. but that is not really a bad thing i.e. what is the fluid temp the the trans. is pulling directly into the filter. We have and still do it both ways. Now I am not a Thermal or Petro Chemical Engineer but that's my :2cents: .
Mounting in the trans. to cooler line will tell you if you have a temp. problem but won't give you any idea if it's a cooler capacity / mounting / air flow problem. Now, every one feel free to start stomping my toes ;) .
