Trans rebuild- shift question

I recently had my trans guy install a 2800 stall and while he had it out he rebuilt it for me since I'm reaching 100k miles. I don't know exactly what he did to it since i don't have the paperwork with me- but i told him not to install a shift kit. He has rebuilt a bunch of transmissions for me and said he knows 700R4 trans' so i trusted him on the rebuild.

Ever since the rebuild i don't have a hard 1-2 shift anymore. I could hardly feel the shifts and there is no noticeable rpm drop until it goes into overdrive. What do you guys think? Is this okay?

It could be the looser converter you installed making it feel that way.

always messing with stuff, aren't ya.

Could be the clutch material he used, if not kevlar, also the bands if they weren't replaced. I had 2800 9/11 converter and i could feel it shift.

If you wanted to have my guys look at it, i'm sure they could take for a ride and tell. I swear by 1 guy, i never had a bad trans come out of this shop.

Make sure the TV cable is adjusted properly. Likely your mechanic is not used to trucks shifting that hard and readjusted the cable...

700R4s or syty 700R4s?

If he replaced the servo with a stock/non syty one then you're going to have problems.

Get someone with a syty with a 2800 stall in theirs and get them to compare. You need a butt dyno in there

Haha- it keeps me busy, and this is how i learn:lol:. I should be home from school this weekend so i'll give them a call and see if they could check it out for me

What kind of problems? It has been back at the trans shop twice since the rebuild because it would get stuck in gears and i felt metal on metal grinding.

I found the receipt for the trans rebuild and the bill says it has the following parts installed

3-4 e pack
corvette servos
heavy duty planterys
high energy clutch and band
2800 stall

Would any of these cause the softer shifts??

you already had corvette servos and HD planets. the other stuff is nothing special.

the 2800 will give you a feeling of a softer shift when driving gently. when laying into it hard and pushing into the stall hard you should still have the firm shift.
If he changed the servo from what you had originally and didn't set the pin height on the new servo and band then it can and will cause a soft shift. the syty also uses a specific 1-2 accum spring and if he put anything other than stock back in there then it's going to be soft.
