Trans question-

I see alot of peole here are switching the 700R4 trans to 4L80E or 4L60E
why is this I would to beleive that the 700R trans can be build to handle some good power: or is it the trans ratios in the trans are too far apart?
I know the 200R4 trans in the buicks when built and can handle 800-1000 wrhp
many people are well into the mid to low 9's

Re: Trans question-

There are a few builders that are known to build bullit proof 700's for these trucks, one that I know of is Rossler. There are a couple of trucks that have been running 10's on those transmissions for years without issue. You can get one of those built for about 2700 dollars. From what I can see people get cheaper ones built alot and have issues, and then rebuilt and have issues and give up on them. The 4l80e is a much stronger trans, and you don;t have the same issues with heat as you do with the 700. Basically, to build a strong 700 is possible by only the few, but almost any trans guy can build a 4l80 to handle 700hp and never have it come back to them. The 4l60's are concidered by most to be stronger, even is the internals are the same. The tranmission is computer controlled and this helps keep it from destoying itself. Also, if I'm wrong about that, let me know.

out of interest, IF you have ever had a Rossler 700r4 break or know of one, post up what stage it was, and how it happened.

It's not the horsepower that kills a SyTy Transmission. It's the AWD and the Torque. Lots of guys send 800-1000hp through transmissions, but how many of them are turning all 4 wheels with 700-800ft lbs of torque?
