Trans cooler

For a auxilary trans cooler, is it better to have it mounted ahead of the a/c radiator w/ no fan, down behind the bumper w/ a fan, or ahead of the a/c radiator with a fan? Trying to finalize my transmission parts list and this is my last debate, I think

These look cool.I'd put it in front of the ac radiator.

Re: Trans cooler

Behind the grill in front of the condensor seems to work best IMO. You can put a fan on it if you want.

Re: Trans cooler

which I quess leaves one more question... how much room is there behind the grille if I'm keeping that A/C?

race or get outta the way
Re: Trans cooler

i had 2 behind the grill with fans back in the day when i still had ac on it.

behind the bumper wont get any air flow across it.

as i recall i lightly trimmed the fins on the back side of the grill for clearance to the fans.

Yep, had the core support on today so I slapped the grill on real quick.... should need to trim the two tabs (don't know what they're for anyway  )

Re: Trans cooler

This is the one I have on my truck between the A/C condensor and the grill with no problem. I didn't have to cut or trim anything to put it in. I install the bigger of the two, part #130-70297.

Re: Trans cooler

alright, bought all my parts tonight.
-Big B&M hitek cooler with fan
-B&M remote mount filter
-All aluminum fittings / 3/8" aluminum plumbing (I dislike rubber intensely)
-Norskog digital trans temp gauge (100 - 300 degrees, green display). going to mount it in the under-dash tray as far to the left as possible.

Thanks for the advice folks

Have you got a place pick out for mounting your remote cooler? If not there is a nice place to mount it on the front cross thats out of the way, I can take pictures tomorrow around 4PM for you if you like.

Re: Trans cooler

Yeah, that would be cool. Thinking about doing it next to the a2a pipe where the battery used to be, but I'm open to options ;)

Per the PM you sent me, here the pictures you ask for. (pictures # 3 and # 4) Show the brackets. I plan on making a new bracket to replace the one in the 4th picture because I want it to look better.

The last three pictures show the clearance on the back of the cooler fan, it's about 3/8" to the condenser (pic 9665)

The next one show the front clearance to the grill, it's about 1/4" (pic 9666)

The last picture shows the overall look

Re: Trans cooler

I run a big fat Setrab cooler in front of the radiator, but I'm thinking of moving it along with a bunch of other stuff back near the right rear axle to help weight balance. First need to get the truck on scales at a four corners.

Re: Trans cooler

I am / have been unable to get the cooler to fit with the fan without interfering with the grille... so, I'm going to mount it straight and sell the fan / thermostat setup ... somehow I haven't got enough room behind the grille

Did the pictures help any? I can't see there being that much diff with our trucks.

Re: Trans cooler

after looking at the pictures I tried that... it seems like either my grille is really warped or my condensor is further forward... the assembly can get in there, but it's in contact with both the condensor and the grille
