Trans cooler line threads?

I'm converting from hard lines to 6AN braided line for the trans cooler, and in reading all I've found on here, I'm still confused. Everything I see, shows that a 1/4" NPT fitting is what the female connectors on the trans are. The stock coolant lines are the same kind of double-flare that a brake line uses. Are 1/4" NPT, and the stock fittings the same thread, but one has the flare built into it? If so, how do you prevent it the NPT fittings from leaking without that flare to seat in correctly? Teflon tape, RTV, tighten the fuk out 'em, etc? Thank guys...

That's the main page I was working off Jimmy. NPT is just straight up pipe thread, with no flare of anything on the end, just a blunt end like a bolt.

The lines that come out of the trans are flared on the inside kind of like the fitting on the left, and the next pic below (sorry, they kinda suck).

If 1/4" NPT will work, I'm fine with it, but I just wanted to make 100% sure before I went out and bought the parts. I know the thread is in the vault for a reason, but it never hurts to ask again.

The threads are NOT 1/4" NPT. They are 1/2"-20 inverted flare. I have been unable to find a -6AN -to- 1/2"-20 fitting with a 45 by researching, but my local speed shop ordered in a pair for tomorrow; only available in steel. I'll see what they look like when they come in. If they are only available in straight, I'll have to 45 the hose fittings ($16.88 -vs- $5.95 from Summit) to make it all work.

Well, I used those EAR-982306 1/4 NPT fittings per the diagram in the link and they went in just fine. Then again, I haven't filled the tranny yet or started the truck...hopefully I won't have any problems. Here's a pic:

I used 1/4" NPT to flare fittings also and havent had any leaks so far. IMO its not a 100% correct fitting but it doesnt leak so I aint gonna mess with it until it does leak.
