does anyone know anything about trans brakes for our 700 trans? I hear that nobody is making one, and then I hear that they are available. i thought I heard that brian hartman was making one, and also about a trans espert in girard ohio named Rossler having one. How extravagent does one have to go to be able to us a trans brake. do they hold up? how much.

has anyone done the 350 trans swap? how do they run? should be a lot stronger and cheaper too boot

Jerry M. and myself have th350 bolt in kits available. Much more stout then the 700r4 but you loose the overdrive.

your better off putting in a looser converter (Higher stall) and related trans oil cooler, or you will find out what the "Brake" in trans brake stands for.... the stock transfer case, prop shafts, rear diff, front diff will have to have signifigant mods/replacements in order to stand that kind of abuse... a 4 or 5k rpm launch does feel cool though, until your rear tires run over your drivetrain laying in the road...

Hartman can do it, but won't sell the trans brake with anything less than his stage IV kit, and he agrees that other driveline components may also need to be beefed up. The trans break will run around $650, in addition to whatever else you need in the trans. Art Carr also markets a 700r4 trans brake, but I'd stick w/Hartman or someone else in the sy/ty community. Also to run a trans brake at any NHRA drag race you'll need an SFI approved flexplate, and a trans shield(I have the web address for the company that made mine at home if you need it) or a trans blanket-but I've been told these can increase operating temps by up to 40deg.
You also get the pleasure of a full manual valve body, so you have to shift manually every time. At least you can swap out valve bodies relatively easy enough.
Good luck

do you know what brian does different with the stage 4? I don't know what was in the one that I lunched. Rossler's going to take his apart when I take it in on Monday so I will have a better idea as to what's breaking.. He suspects either a shaft or the sprag so I'm trying to find out if there is something better available when I see what broke. I suspect that the only tranny that will stay in this thing is the absolute ultimate 700R4...maybe. I want to know what the one he built for Lingenfelters twin turbo 1000 horse AWD sonoma was. then again, that one didn't live long either.

anyone know how a built 350 or 400 does. I know they hold up better, I wouldn't think it would have enough gear for top end speed and would rev the hell out of it driving on the street.

Its very common that the input shaft brakes the drum(mine did)
If the tranny will hold the front or rear shaft wont, something will come in pieces soon. If you race everyday 8) like i do
But then again if i stop someday spinning all four tires , then i wont be needing a sy any more
