Tranny's aren't hard?

I heard from about a hundred people that the Sy/Ty tranny swap was the worst thing on the planet and that it was so hard. I just got done with my swap last night and didn't think it was that bad. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't the easiest thing I've ever done, but was by no means the hardest. And I did it in my friends garage, no hoist. Just jacked it up so the bottom of the tires were about 2' off the floor. And all hand tools and a nice tranny jack(thanks to Mark Larson). Now it's test-n-tune time to try to get my truck dialed in again after it has not been drivin since Oct of last year.

ive had mine in and out 6 times in the past year. trust me, the more you do it, the easier it gets

I hear all this crap about the top 2 bellhousing bolts? Those were a piece of cake! I had the most trouble with the two 2-sided studs by the downpipe. Just have to get those with a box wrench. Still not really hard, just a little tricky and time consuming.

i got those the same way i got the top bolts. long ass 3/8" extention, 3/8" swivel and a deep well 12 point 14mm or 15mm socket.

The only hard thing is the top two bolts because most people don't let the transmission hang from the engine mounts. Letting the weight of the transmission pull the engine down exposes the bolts fairly well. However, if you still have original engine mounts and you let the tranny just flat hang from them, they can most definitely break or your distributor will hit the firewall. Every single truck is different and luckily you have one without pinchwelds and crap in your way every time you try to get a bolt out :evil:
What did you put in? You said "swap". Did you just put a 700 back in it?
Glad to see someone had a good experience working on their truck.

Yes, I put another 700r4 back in. I bought a 47,000 mile trans/ transfer case from a smashed Sy and had that trans built, then just swaped them out.

Also forgot to put on my driveshaft loop while I had it out. DOH!
