Tranny work list ordered!!

Well i went ahead and ordered all the items i needed for a tranny fluid change, remote tranny filter and a tranny cooler install. I also decided to get the same brand name tranny gauge that i have for my boost so it can look identical. Below are all the parts.
I took ALOT of the info that tommyquest posted detailing his install, thanks to him.

I will keep everyone posted once i get the items. I ordered everything from Sumit racing. The fluid i already have which will be AMSOIL. Been waiting to do this since i bought the truck years ago. :D:tup:

I am told to use teflon paste for the AN connectors, what type or brand are people using? Any teflon paste is okay? I have a few different ones that i use for home pipes is it different?

Vinny only use the teflon paste on the pipe thread side of the fittings. No need to use it on the -an side since they are flare fittings and seal up fine. I've always just used teflon tape but the paste seems to work quite well...

nice organized list vin.

ive always used AN fittings and have ALWAYS used teflon tape on the pipe thread side. the paste is prob even better. not to sure if its a little messier.

good luck with the install.

Okay thanks matt so any teflon tape will do, sounds good. Was looking at summit racing and saw some teflon paste that was over ten dollars for a small little bottle. Thanks again. :tup:

I ordered everything from summit racing. Got just about everything on the first order which is what i listed. Second order is today which will include the AN tool kit, one more connector that i forgot and the original in pan tranny filter. I plan on doing an entire tranny fluid change when i do the cooler install. :tup:

How many quarts do you think i need when i drop the pan? Im thinking give or take 8-10 quarts. maybe thats to much, what you think?

Do you still have the stock pan on the truck or an aftermarket deep pan? If you're going to have it all apart it wouldn't be a bad idea to get a cast aluminum deep oil pan with a drain plug on it. They add a little extra cooling, a few extra quarts of tranny fluid, and an easier way to drain the fluid if you ever have to. Just a thought....

Just a heads up, when I changed to a bigger pan it took more than what I thought. I ended up driving down the road and getting stuck. I had to walk back to my house and get some more fluid. I would double check the fluid before you drive too far. :rotf: I added a deeper pan and even accounting for the extra capacity I think it took an extra quart or two.

Thanks hatrik but I plan to leave it original.

I took today off to get this done and I can't believe I forgot to document how the lines should go. I mean what's the out line ontranny? I am still going to use the radiator so which way should it go to the remote cooler. Typing this from iPhone dropping kids at school will use search when get home but if any assistance will be much appreciated

The bottom line goes to the bottom of the rad, top goes to the top if that helps. It doesn't matter which way it flows through the cooler, they aren't directional.

I'm surprised no deep tranny pan... That's one of those mods you do while you're in there... Like oh so many mods we do. Lol

Okay so this is how i plan to set up the lines.....Please let me know if correct.
  • Top line from tranny goes out to remote filter inlet
  • Remote filter outlet side then goes to top of radiator
  • Bottom of radiator then goes out to remote cooler
  • Remote cooler then goes back to trannyb on the bottom line.

I usually try to take pics with my Blackberry before I take stuff apart just for that very reason. It helps a bunch.

Looks nice. How did you mount the filter? Did you cut the wheel well?
