Are the Typhoon and Syclone 700R4 transmissions the same unit? In other words, could they be interchanged? TIA.

VERY small differences between them, no problem using one for the other.

They are interchangable. Syclone's use 1LHM, 92 Ty's 2LHM, & 93 Ty's 3LHM. Their are subtle difference, most of them being the evoution of the 700R4/4L60 Design. Syclone have the stiffest shifts, 93 Ty probably have the most refined 4L60. I don't think anyone would swap in a 93 for 91 transmission just for the subtle differences.

Thanks all. Just considering buying a spare tranny from a 92 Ty in the unlikely event the one in my Sy exasperates.

yup. go for it. 91 and 92 are exactly the same. 93 is a bit more refined but completly swapable. 93 has the nicest shifts in R and are a little softer on engagement
