Tranny problem???

Hey, my good friend Andrew, has a '93 Ty, (baby ty!) we were out cruising last night, and instead of the hard shift into second, it would shift VERY smooth, and rev a little higher as it shifted into 2nd.... Very wierd for this truck. Tranny fluid is still a good color/smell, but is a little over full. (1/2 litre or so) Could this be the culprit?

It is a fully built 700R4 as it shifts out of 1st into second it is almost as if the tranny slips.

Have a temp guage on it?? Mine did that right before the clutches let go. My temps shot up over 240. It would also lag going into 2nd when hard on throttle.

Burnt band or damaged apply ridge. Replace band. If it's got a fairbanks 2nd billet servo, take it out or it will do it again.

Thanks for the info guys, temps are still good, we were only seeing around 160, 170 degrees... I'll pass this on to andrew. (He can't seem to get his log-on info to work) might have to get it to a tranny shop for further diagnosis.

What'll happen is is that pressures will probably show fine.

On part throttle, 1-2 will be OK but softer.
At WOT it will slip considerably.
Once those bands are glazed, they are done.
There are no "clutches" that apply 2nd gear in a 700r4. Just the band. Forwards are holding and low is holding but the band has to do the work. If all other gears are fine, band is it.
A temporay fix is tightening the TV cable. Runs higher pressures and compensates for a short time but if you do a lot of WOT running, eventually you'll burn it up.
