Tranny Bushing Question

Guys,
when replacing bushing in the tranny(case, reverse input drum, sun gears, ect) is all that your concerned with is setting them to the correct depth(for ones that dont bottom out) and making sure they are not kinked in there bores?? Is there any honing that must be done?? Reson I ask is that I know when kingpin bushings are changed you have to hone them. Thanks Guys.

no, you dont need to hone the bushings, just prelube them before assembly.

when installing the bushings, try to set them roughly to the same depth, and more importantly try to drive them in square.

i've used various size sockets and extensions and hammer to drive mine in. just find a socket that is almost the same size as the bushing being installed. it works pretty good if you dont have a bushing installer.

in situations where the bushing will be flush with the surface, you can use something flat (piece of wood, metal), and place on top of the bushing making sure that you tap it in square.

when you remove old bushings, use a punch and try hitting them around the perimeter until they pop out. when you are removing a bushing with a joint in it, try to collapse the bushing by tapping it inwards at the joint.

what are "bushing wrenches"?
if you are referring to bushing installer or driver, where can you get them for $100? when i last looked, they cost $200-$250.

it doesn't seem worth buying if you are only rebuilding one trans.

oh and btw, when you use a socket and extension, put the extension through the opposite side of the socket. you want to use the back side of the socket. that way it is more stable when you are driving the bushings in.
