The Syclone had a limited towing capacity because the intercooler system was only designed to handle 15 seconds of WOT. Towing requires more power, which in turn requires more constant boost. More constant boost means more heat load for the intercooler. Once the IC becomes heat soaked and inefficient, intake temps rise and the odds of detonation go up substantially.
The Typhoon has a "no tow" warning due to the fact that the utility is slightly heavier than the pickup, and that more than likely the owner will have passengers and cargo (more weight) in addition to the trailer. Not worth the risk in GMs mind, hence the no tow warning.
People have towed with these trucks, however it's generally limited to dirtbikes, ATVs, PWCs, and small things like that.
Contrary to popular belief, the transmission is NOT the weak link. The 700R4 was used in all the S trucks, fullsize vans, the Astro/Safari, and in fullsize pickups and SUVs.

You can probably tow with them if you stay out of boost.I think it was just another way for GM to cover their ass and void your warranty.
