Towing Capacity

I just have a quick question.

What is the max towing load that a Ty can handle? Provided it has a frame mounted hitch.

tranny is under heavy load to begin with, it can be done, but most recommend do some tranny mods first. IMO avoid doing it completely!!!

there is a member on here his name is TowingTyphoon. he has pics of his ty towing a fairly large boat. you would need to do transmission mods to help it keep cool, but it can be done.

I've towed this w/ my Dad's '92 S-10 ext cab. 4.3 auto w/ no problems. I WILL be towing it w/ my Sy.

The boat on the trailer weighs about 5,000 lbs.

Keep in mind, I have none of the tranny problems of a 700 and you must drive like you have some sense. When the load weighs more than the tow vehicle, you are asking for trouble.

I only have to tow it about 6 miles to put it in the lake.

Yup, the Ty is'nt meant to tow. The added weight of being an SUV combined with the turbo engine will fry the tranny. I wonder if the zero tow rating has to do with the ELC system too:squint:

The Typhoon weighs 300# more than the Syclone but the Syclone can tow 1100# and has a 250# load capacity. Were the GM engineers expecting Typhoon owners to have their 300# buddy in the passenger seat along with two 250# girlfriends in the back seat and all the food and bear that could be fit in the cargo compartment?

I dont know about yours, but mine has a 500# load capicity and will never see it!!!

Max tow rating is 0

I'm sure there was susposed to be a sticker stating "WARNING!!! Under no circumstances should you cut a hole in the hood of this vehicle for blower clearances!!!"

The question isn't what did GM intend for it to do, more like what will it do safely....
