Top end cleaner question (diff one this time)

Did a search and didnt find anything that really cranked my tractor, so to speak..

Question: Does anyone know of a top end cleaner like the ford guys have available? They have top end cleaner avail that ties right into the fuel rail. Just unplug the FP relay and fire up the car on the cleaner. No fuss no muss.... :grin:

Whole lot easier (IMO) than using a hose stuck down in the can or pouring it in via a funnel like Ive heard some ppl do. Not saying thats a bad way to do it but using the injectors to get the stuff in the cylinders seems like a good/easier method to me.

I also thought of something like that. When I first heard of Top Engine Messy Cleaner - I thought that is what it did. I don't know of anything - but I am sure someone does.

FYI while trying to track down my knock issue I did the top end cleaner (GM stuff) twice on my truck and didn't notice a difference in diacom or driveability. Later on, I tried using a service called "Motorvac" after reading up on it on the web. I was really, really apprehensive about this type of thing (I'm hard to convince) but said screw it after finding some facts about it on the web. (gov backed in a number of places, tested by consumer groups, yadda yadda)

Anyway, I took the truck in and had the service done for $100 (exp labor in these parts). They hook into the inlet and outlet fuel lines and run a detergent through the truck for an hour (idle). It's not a solvent, and it cleans the rails, injectors, valves and combustion chamber.

Anyway, I didn't notice much of a difference KR-wise on diacom, but did notice a profound impact on the driveability of the truck. I used to have a hesitation right off idle, and in OD at really low revs and throttle opening on the freeway. Both of those are gone, and overall the truck just drives much better. I was very careful to really keep track of exactly how to make my truck have drivability issues before I took it in so I could test it when I got it back (as well as diacom) and I can say that it totally made a difference.

Overall, I was bummed that neither the motorvac nor the GM stuff helped out my knock issue, but happy with the results of the motorvac purely from a "it drives better" point of view. If I bought another truck I would do it before touching anything else. YMMV
