This effing fuel filter!!!

ok, im trying to replace my fuel filter, ive got both bolts on the sides loosend, and that lil bolt on top (the 10mm one). i dont think the filter has ever been changed, and its somehow managed to weld itself in there... ive tried hammering it, to get it out of that lil bracket, but no luck.

any ideas??? preferably something that wont cause sparks... not in the mood to go to the ER tonight.

anyway, i hosed the bracket down with some WD-40, let it sit for about 10 minutes, then tried to pull the filter out... no luck.

after screaming a few obscenities... ok a lot of obscenities, i went to the garage, got the hammer and a screw driver. tightened up the lil 10mm bolt on top, and beat the hell out of the filter.

after taking out my aggression, i loosened up the 10mm bolt, then took the 20mm wrench and pushed as hard as i could, and bam!!! i smash my already bruised fingers into the frame, but the filter came loose!!! i have no idea what the hell was holding it in there so tight. i can only assume that its the original filter, and has been clamped in there for 10 years.

How about just taking the filter/bracket from underneath the truck (just move the fuel lines out of the filter,one at a time),then tapping on the plastic bracket with a screwdriver & hammer on your workbench/driveway?

well right off i did notice it seemed to idle better, and acceleration seemed less hesitant. the old filter weighed significantly more than the new one too!

ill post some real results, after i swap my plugs, cap/rotor, and plug wires. im hitting up these 1/8 mi drags in "sandy eggo" this weekend, so ill post my times, if they arent too pitiful.

hopefully i wont break anything, thatd be a good way to spoil my first time racing.
