Temps off by 20-30* possible?

I have an Autometer gauge and it is hooked up to the trans through the test port in the side of the case above the shift linkage. Im seeing 210 pretty steady. Although it seems to take about an hour of driving to get it there but it doesnt really come back down. There is a guy names Barry who owns a Syclone in town and he also happens to own a transmission shop here as well. I called him today and asked if he ahd a temp gauge hooked up and if so where is he tieing in at? He told me the test port as well. He asked what the problem was and I told him and he told me he ahd the same problem and took an infrared temp gauge and pointed it at the trans? or fluid or somethign like that and it read 20-30* cooler htan what hte gauge said. Is it possible htat this is due to the location? He told me he had steady 230* temps but that his fluid was always nice and pink and had 0 signs of burn. Hes had the trans in the truck for 4-5 years and still has had no problems and says his gauge still reads those temps. Any opinions here?

That location is the last to come up to temp and then does not show the cooling and heating cycles very well. So yes the temps there can be as much as 20-30 or even more off the true temps You need to move the sender to the output line of the trans either right at the trans case or inline before it goes to the cooler to get the true reading of how hot the fluid is coming from the trans
