Well im getting ready to pull the motor on the sy to replace my oil pan. So I figured while im there I might as well change the motor mounts (js designs), do the ZQ8 steering box, and do the gaskets for the remote oil filter can anybody else think of any other items I should do while the motor is out to hopefully prevent future problems? how much was the ZQ8 steering box and where did you get it from? What other items do you anticipate having to change with the box?

I got the box for free  its great to have friends who own salvage yards. I already bought new P/S lines (I always F them up) and I plan on doing the pitman arm with it .

Knock sensor act funny at all?

turbo oil feed line leaking/need replacing?

distributor check up/ignition module?

Any of these can be done with engine in truck, just a lot nicer to do it while it's out.

If you have the stock turbo then you might wanna check the rubber portion of the lower oil return line. Replace if needed.

Front seal in the trans (easy to do).

Rear main seal (not as simple as trans seal but not bad either).

If the truck is/has been a year round driver or has high miles Id check the freeze plugs to make sure they arent starting to seap. Some last years others dont. WAY easier to replace while the eng is out if you spot a leaky one.

If you have the time and money Id look over the front diff mounting bushings for wear and tear also. Ive never had to do mine (yet) but Id bet its WAY easier to replace em with the eng out. Dunno myself.

Thanks guys I never thought about the Knock sensor, ill order one now

I know the oil return line is leaking,(rubber part) is it anything fancy or do I have to but the whole line from the dealer?

I just ordered the urathane (sp?) bushings for the transfer case, front diff.

As far as the distributor the MSD billet is on the way for the new motor that will some day be finished.

truck only has 40k on it so freeze plugs should be good, plus I bought it from Chicago so hopefully some of the good karma followed it.
