t-case fluid

i read somewhere to use ATF in the transfer case. ok, no prob. just one question, why was the fluid that came out of it (probably stock @ 57k miles) black? do i need to open it up and check for wear?

I'd say so, the stuff I pulled out of mine looked like new tranny oil.

if it was black it's bc it was probably burnt up and needed replacing. use the dex 3 and prob want to change it again after a 100 miles or so if your fluid was that bad.

Capacity is 3 pints or one and a half quarts BTW.
