T-case Brace

that would be asking for trouble if you ask me.... the torque that will be transmitted/absorbed by the transsmission housing would seem insane.

definetly not something i would be trying.

The problem is that my T-case is toast and I just got it all back together and I noticed the bracket that goes on top of the T-case is gone. The funny thing is that I never took it off but I did take off the bolts that go to the brace. I can tell its been this way for a while cause the bolt holes on the T-case are extremely dirty. Where the bracket could be I have no idea but I was just gonna drive without til monday when I can pick up a new bracket.

you welcome...that is a TY transfer case and brace (not sy)...not sure what difference there might be if any...

They are both the same length as the wheelbase discrepancy is made up by the rear driveshaft on the ty.

I know i shouldn't say this but i don't run with one I personally know of an 11.004 truck that didn't either with no problems.....?

I got my t-case from the bone yard. The brace was missing I put my truck together anyway at 800 HP 2 years later not the first problem and it gets a lot of street duty. Throw it under a bench gust in case one day you want to make your truck pure gain and carry on. :wink:

I already got it all back together. wish I wouldve taken pics of carnage inside the T-case. The planetary was literally in pieces, the propshaft spindle had chewed up the small housing bearing chewing up the spindle itself. All the tranny guys I went to for cadvice on parts said oh you HAVE TO get a new viscous cause Im sure its trashed , but I just reused my old and it works fine. As for the brace, I spent about 1/2 hour staring at it under the truck and really couldnt see why it was even necassary. It just connects to the trans with only one bolt. I could maybe see if it was connected to the frame or crossmember but I wouldnt think it would be that big a deal leaving it off. So naturally I put the POS back on becuae I like to make myself miserable when its not necassary. :banghead:

Synthetic ATF is a must for you T-case. The T-case has no way circulate or cool the ATF.

Good tip. Everyone I talked to said to just use dexron. Is it too late to switch ?

No just drain and fill. When I built my truck I ran the vent under the cab when I would make pass at the track the T- case would puke fluid from the vent. A friend of mine works at a tranny shop he said synthetic ATF is leaps and bounds over the petroleum based stuff . I switched over and no more puking!

When I had my T-case out the vent had a rubber hose on it that had a bolt in it. I would thihnk its safe to say the previous owner had the same problem and fixed it by putting a bolt in it. Is this a bad fix? Should I take it out?

Yes it will build pressure as it warms up and cause the seals to leak!!! Go to your GM dealer and get a vent for the hose this keeps the trash out.
