okay im going to be adding all the induction, intake and so forth from a sy into my 94 s-10, now is the block/heads from that year going to be the best compatiblity wise for this or should i go to a 91-93 year engine???? (i dont THINK there is any difference)I may be buyin an old core to rebuild anyways so i dont have the downtime of pulling the 94s engine and sending it in....

the 94 will have better heads. and wont have the better main caps. if you have a genuine syty engine use the main caps/ block from it and use the heads from the 94

hmmmm guess im prolly not getting the reaction i want because you prolly all think im just "dreaming".....hmmmm well i bought pretty much everthing except the block and heads that sintax had left... and am going to do this

now so did the sy/ty block have like a 4 bolt main setup or what makes them special?? I just decided to do this all yesterday and am now digging in to see how far over my head i am

Original syty blocks came with nodular iron main caps.

Apparently when GM did the product testing on the syty motor they found the #2 main would fracture. Now keep in mind that it fractured after some ridiculous number of hours at high boost and big torque. I think it was 30 hours at 450 lb/ft. Don't quote me on that though.

Most big builds have steel 4 bolt caps installed onto a regular tbi non balance shaft block. Thats better than the factory nodular 2 bolts they came with on sytys.

There has been some talk of the newer balance shaft blocks cracking at high hp levels as well. Although i've never seen or heard of it myself.

I'ved 'heard' the same about later model blocks. There are 2 *newer* blocks than the syty block.

L35 W motor had one very similar to the Syty block, but with provision for a balance shaft above the cam.

LF6 X motor has a block that is different than both, most noticeable difference is the rounded cylinder case. I took some pictures of this block versus a Syty era one.

This block just looks to have less material in the middle area.

okay so what year did the balance shaft start? because getting the best block I can is the goal on this, i had located a 87 from an astro awhile back and may still be able to get it.... would that be a non balance shaft? OR i do have an 88 4.3 s10 as well that i could swap the motor from my 94 into and take that block and redo it...

I have seen 93 balance shaft motors. the easyiest way to tell is look at the timing chain cover. the later models are vastly different

okay i will be looking at both my 4.3s today after work.... if the spare motor i can get is a non balance shaft i will be buying it this weekend and start tearing it down...
