Stock governor

Found this info. Recalibrated using B&M kit. Should be pretty close.

GM#24202127 = 4400 rpm
Blue&Yellow 2 & 3 = 4900 rpm

"The transmission governor on a 700R4 is used to regulate the speed at which the transmission shifts into the next higher or lower gear. It accomplishes this through the use of two sets of centrifugal weights, each a different weight. The heavier OUTER weights are used for mid-range(cruising) rpm and the lighter INNER weights are for high(WOT) rpm shifts. As rpm increases, the weights rise due to centrifugal force. The higher the rpm, the more force they exert closing the fluid passages, causing the shift to be delayed until the internal fluid pressure counteracts the force of the weights and allows the transmission to shift."

Re: Stock governor

Keep in mind that the SYTY stock cam
best rpm range is at 4000 .....

I noticed that but I am also thinking that the stock springs are "holding" it back. Maybe some stiffer springs would help up to 5500 rpm?? Feels like valve float. I love the torque but redline is too low for a nice 3K stall upgrade. It doesn't help that the governor feels like it's sticking cause there is almost a 1-2 sec delay on the shifting. Shifts fine if I lift my foot off the pedal but we all know what that means.

I'd like to find a good grind to move powerband to 2500-5500 ish. Maybe retro some roller lifters to march the roller rockers I got.

If you replace the cam, you really should replace the heads. For both mods you will need a different tune. You should already have hydraulic roller lifters.

Re: Stock governor

Got a set of 1995 CPI heads from a 190hp S-10( that's what the guy said) but not wanting to tear into a good running motor just yet. Maybe later. I'm just kind of trying to improve on the smaller more accessible details before spraying some Much needed new paint on this one. Got the roller 1.52 comp cams rockers waiting as well. Thanks for the info on the hydraulic roller lifters! I just wasn't 100% on that.
