The other night i was driving and my ty just died. It did the same thing a few weeks ago but after pressing and pushing a few wires under the hood i tried to start it and it started right up. well this time the ty wouldn't start back up and my buddy and I found out that it has no spark.

Could this be the cause of having a bad module in the distributor???

I don't know much but this is my only educated guess.

First of all, Check the two ECM fuses (ecmb and ecm1).

When you turn the key to the accy position (just before the 'START' position) does the fuel pump energize and run for 2-3sec ? If not its most certainly related to the ECM or fuses for it. You wont have any spark if the ecm is not operating. Not saying this is the problem, but alot cheaper and easier to check that then start ripping distributor apart....

well the fuel pump turns on. I didn't think it was the fuse because the truck died on me a few weeks back and it started back up without changing any fuses.

I had a similiar problem about two months ago in the Ty.... was driving home and it just died. NO spark.

The problem was the coil pickup....... the distributor must be removed and dissassembled to replace the ~$18 piece.

Afterwards, it fired rite up! HTH,

same thing happened to me with the pickup.
for some reason it was burning up my module left and right.
so i replaced everything and no problems since then.

Speaking of modules, I guess everyone is recommending the stock module over the aftermarket one - Correct ? So, do we have to get the GM ones from GM, or do the chain AP stores carry it ?

Conley has bought me the MSD billet distributor, and U have to use the box that comes with it. But I've heard that the MSD module has caused problems - burning stuff up ? But maybe that is is that only w the stock setup ? So, whaddaya think, go w the GM, or the MSD module ?
