shipping a trans

Quickstop [UK]

Combating adversyty.
I need a big box/container for transporting a trans around in the back of my truck.

Anyone got any goo recommendations for what to use/where to get it?

I think the measurements are 26 x 18 x 17. I've been looking on usplastics.com and Rubbermiad/Target. No luck so far.

I don't want to spend a tonne of money but don't want to waste it either. Any suggestions?

Thanks guys!

Re: shipping a trans

I used a Rubbermaid tote to ship my trans out and back years ago. I packed it nice and tight in there and sent it off, the trans builder did not, and the output shaft was sticking out of the tote the whole way home.

Re: shipping a trans

Get a jumbo tote at the local home center. (leak -proof/water proof)

Line the bottom with ether plywood or thick cardboard ( shipping co's slam it around will damage the pan (Thanks FedEx  )) Even better to elevate the pan by supporting it from the bottom with 2x4's

Shim inside where necessary so that it cannot slide around.

Drill holes around the tote perimeter (top/side) large enough for zip ties to secure the top/lid.

The newer transmissions are easier as the bell housing can be removed.
