since I did the remote filter and cooler my trans is shifting later then before from 1-2. I am guessing I changed the line pressure a bit. is there something to fix it or is it ok? thanks

Re: shifting different.

Did you keep the same size cooler lines? Are you getting on it more? You seen the pictures of where I mounted mine and I haven't had any shifting problem.:dunno:

Re: shifting different.

Mike said to check the fluid level. It might be a bit low. I added some but it might not be enough. It could just be in my head.

Re: shifting different.

STOP DRIVING IMMEDIATELY! Confirm that you have the lines connected correctly to the remote filter housing. I know of at least one owner that connected the lines backwards on one and burned the transmission up after only driving few dozen miles... The line that connects to the bottom of the radiator is the pressure line coming out of the transmission. The line on the top of the radiator is the return line going back.

With regards to the cooler, do you have it installed in such a way that any air trapped in the system can escape? Mounting a transmission cooler with both of the ports pointing down is a no no for this reason.

Bottom line is installing a remote filter and/or a cooler should NOT cause ANY change in how your transmission operates. If it does, something in your install is suspect and you can QUICKLY destroy your transmission!

You even posted on it to mike about the air thing.

I posted a while back on how to install the lines.
I went from the bottom trans to the in on the remote filter.
Out on the remote filter to the bottom of the Radiator
Top of radiator to top of cooler.
bottom of cooler back to top of the trans
??????????????????????????????????????????

Wouldn't you want to go from the top of the radiator to the bottom of the cooler, then top of the cooler back to the tranny?

Re: shifting different.

I thought so too, but Mike from RPM told me the other way. The lines have gave me would not reach the other way.

Re: shifting different.

Return line is the top fitting on the 700.

Out line is the lower fitting.

Don't look at your coolers. That's nice to have a "certain" way. But the main thing is that you take it "OUT" of the lower fitting on the trans to the "IN" on your remote filter housing. Then feed the "OUT" of the remote filter housing to your coolers and then back to the "TOP" line on the trans.

Correct. That will cool the ATF the most before it returns back the transmission. The auxilliary cooler should be the last cooling leg since it doesn't have to cool anything else like the radiator does. The cooler in the radiator can only cool the ATF so much because the engine coolant is being cooled by it as well.

If you have all your lines connected correctly and the ATF is at the proper fill level, something else is going on. The only effect a remote filter and auxilliary transmission cooler should have is cleaner and cooler ATF.

Re: shifting different.

Mine is going from the top down on the aux cooler. The RPM lines wont fit the other way. My trans temps are ok I guess. City its around 200-210 soon as I get on the highway it drops to 170. This is when its 85* ouside.
I check the line 5 times to make sure the bottom line is going to the in on the filter. Just currious what is the difference between in and out on the filter. It wont flow the other way???

I think it has a check valve to prevent it from going the other way, thats why it must go according to the "IN" and "OUT"

Re: shifting different.

There is a check valve in the filter itself. If you run the lines backward, the check valve will slam shut and all you will get is a trickle of fluid flow.

Re: shifting different.

My aux cooler gets warm after 10 min of idle. Gues that means it has flow.

Re: shifting different.

Looks like the way it was shifting was due to either low fluid. . Added 1/3 qt to brint to middle of Ok area. And to the way I was driving. I started driving normal and it shifts like it did.

Re: shifting different.

You've found your problem but just because the coolers get warm doesn't mean the lines are hooked up right. Here's what you'll find when the lines are reversed from the trans to the filter housing. What At idle, you will have sufficient flow. At low throttle speeds, it'll behave somewhat OK. At higher throttle when pressure is boosted in the trans, the valve will slam shut on the filter and you'll cook the trans.
