Shifter problems

When I bought my Syclone it already had a beefed up prop shaft and the shifter cable bracket was modifiedso it wouldn't hit. I've never been able to shift the truck into 1st because the shifter won't let the cable go back that far or there's something in the shifter stopping it. I was driving around and tried to drop it into first and the cable stuck. I had to push it forward super hard and found the cable wound up inside of itself. I changed the cable out with a new one and everything shifts easy except it still won't shift into 1st and Park is still hard to push into but if I push hard enough the push button will pop up. I'm thinking it's the modified bracket and pulled it off thre tranny and benit closer and further to compensate but still have the same issue. Anyone else ran into this problem with a prop shaft upgrade? I can usually make these things work but it's kicking my a!@..........Also, there's a large vacuum line on the front differential going to nothing and I ve been reading about a differential actuator. Anyone have any ifnfo on this also? the prop shaft rubbed it into.

The large vacuum line is most likely just the breather port. It should have a plastic valve in the end, and go up into the rad support, or somewhere high, to keep it out of the water. There aren't any actuators on the front diff, those are only on the 4x4 trucks to engage 4wd, ours are on all the time, so we don't need it. As for the shifter, something must be binding, check the mechanism, does it shift into park easy with the cable disconnected? If it won't go into first, then the bracket must be too short and not getting the full movement of the cable.

Thanks for the reply, I agree with the bracket on the tranny not positioning the cable correctly. Do you know where I can find a pre fabbed bracket or I might ba able to mod the old bracket off of the 4L60E I put in my white truck. I'll replace the vac hose and mve it to a higher location.

I'll do that today to see the distance, the bracket has been ground off for clearance and I'm not sure if it's a factory bracket or not. Since the selector bracket isn't hitting the prop shaft I probably don't need to order the one I posted I'll post dimensions inan hour or so.

Subscription post. Watching this one b/c I have the same problem.

Mine is off by about 1/8" maybe less, but it won't go into 1st and have to pull below Drive then lock it by pushing a bit forward.

I worked on it and it was a 3/8" off both directions. The linkage on the tranny could be a little longer to compesate for the angular misalignment making it harder to shift. I don't think the Detroit turbo linkage will help me out unless it was longer than what I have on there now. I think I'll fab my own bracket because from the cable bracket on the transmission pan to the linkage on the shift point at the transmission there's too much angular misalignment. I've adjusted everything at the hand shifter in the cab and will make compensations at the transmission points. In reality I'd like to see the linkage on the trannsmission 3/8" longer or make a new braket that is closer to the pan without hitting the Gilbert shaft. I have an F-body bracket but the holes too big and to keep it from hitting the shaft I'd grind into the hole that holds the cable and clip. This will be an easy fix now that I see what's going on.

I found a vette transmission and bought the linkage for fourty dollars. The angle of the rectangle cut out where the shifter goes was angled different from the Syclone but put everything where I can shift smoothe now. I need to make some minor adjustments tomorrow and I'll be on the road again. :tup: Sy 1428 was in bad shape but I'm getting all of the original pieces back on it.

Similar problem with mine. Mine will pop into neutral if you try to launch it in OD. In D it does just fine. Happened right after I installed my larger propshaft and bent the bracket over some. I have never tried putting it into 1.
