Shifter cable problem

The shifter cable plastic shield piece comes out of the metal peice that is crimped to. Is there a fix for this? Or do I need a new one?

What I did as a temp. fix is this...
Slit a piece of hose, slip it over the cable and steel crimp. Tighten the hose down with two clamps on the steel crimp and two clamps on the plastic sleeve, that will hold it in place. Fern
