shifter cable adjustment

is there an adjustment in the stock shifter cable like an aftermarket one? my truck will roll backwards in park (but not fowards) and will not go into 1st. feels like theres some slop in the notches in he shifter also. any ideas?

The only thing I could figure out was to slighty bend the the bracket at the transmission pan either forward or back. If the the truck is rolling then the cable is not pushing the selector forward enough so bend the bracket forward. Do this at very small increments and test until you have it perfect. Hope this helps.

I am having almost the same problem. Seems to be fine, goes into park ok, but won't go down far enough to get it into first.

Since we're talking about shifter cables, how many hours of labor should it take..had mechanic replace broken one...it cost 2 and 1/2 hours labor ...is that right?

I can do it in less than an hour. You have to remove and reinstall the center console which is the most time consuming. It's really a very easy job to do. Click on my link below, I have an album on shifter cable replacment. Hope this helps.

okay found the problem... a couple trans pan bolts backed out- including the two that hole the shifter bracket. well i tightened them and all is well!

At the trans there is a bolt that holds the cable to the shift lever.
That hole is slotted to allow for a tiny bit of adjustment also.

Had to do some tweaking on mine after the gilbert propshaft install.
