D is usually good till about 90mph, I think. But it wouldbe at that point you shit into OD if you intended on going faster.

I shift around 4500 rpm, which right around 97-98 mph with my converter locked.. If my 1/4 MPH was really close, I might leave it in D and let it rev another 100 rpm or so. its not going to make any significant diffference on ET only slight differeance in MPH. I wouldn't rev it over 4700/4800rpm with a stock cam and short block.
