Resources for engine assembling

Well, since i've never assembled an engine, i want to read about it first. Does anyone have some decent links or a helpful book that they can point me towards?

Basically i need to learn what order things should be done in, which parts be which lube, and how far to torque everything.

Thanks.

I recommend the service manual. It has quite a bit of detail. Others on the board could fill in the blanks if necessary.

I haven't looked at the service manual as far as rebuilds, but the Peterson Publishing book on how to Hot rod your Small block chevy is real good as far as Plastigauging the crank, checking the clearances ect... I think they even have a "how to" book on V-6's, but I haven't read it either... Hayne's makes a real good manual with specs and such, with pictures that may help... I would also find a person that you trust (And can be bribed with beers and such) that knows his shit when it comes to assembly... you need some micrometers and a few other specialized tools to do the job right... Cleanliness is just as important as the selection of the right parts... If you don't have access to the info that you need, just email me your addy and I'll send you copies of what I have.
