Long day today. Pullling my Ty apart to replace the converter as the lock-up clutch has worn to the extent of causing severe vibration. I'm sure this is the vibration the previous owner/s complained about.
I do remember now how much fun pulling the trans on one of these AWD trucks is. And along with that some previous owner/mechanic, don't know which did some very questionable, shall we say "work" on #1631. Like peanut butter bolt in the front drive-line coupler. I'm glad it didn't strip out the coupler threads while I was taking it out. I'll take a pic of the streched-out piece if I can find it as it took a ride across the shop somewhere.
And the metric crossmember bolt with the uss fender nut screwed onto it. That turned into a 2 1/2 hour job trying to get the damn thing out. My son finally came home and it took both of us to cut in out. Well that was enough for today. Started at 3 and finished around 8:30 but did get the TC onto the ground.
Few more things but they were minor, just someone trying to hurry.
Anyway going to put new seals and chain in the TC tomorrow along with the converter. Some ATF or powersteering fluid dripping so I need to find the source and fix it. Hopefully get it together by Sunday.
