Removing the fuel filter

I'm trying to replace my fuel filter but I can't for the life of me get the 16mm nuts to even move. I've tried soaking them with Loosen 4, WD40 and just about every penitrating/lubricating substance I can find. Any tips here on how to get it off?

They can be a PIA to get loose. What works for me is using two 12" adjustable wrenches. When I put them on the filter/flare nut I wiggle them while tightening the adjustment screw as much as poss. This keeps them from rounding the fittings off (most of the time anyway).

Also I use my "bump-turn-bump-turn" method (no, its not a line dance).. Its something that easier to learn by watching rather than describing but I'll try..

Hang on to the wrench thats on the filter itself as tight as poss. You dont want it to move in the bracket at all if possible. Now, put some serious pressure on the wrench thats on the flare nut but not enough to round it off. While your putting the mentioned pressure on the flare nut very quickly increase the amount of force youre exerting on it but only do it momentarily. Repeat about every 2 seconds or so while continueing to put the turning force on it. Thats the "bump" part. Kinda works like a human powered impact gun.

HTH

BTW. Works wonders on stuck brake bleeder screws too..

Fuel Filter

I just changed my fuel-filter last week, and I used myclone's method even though the filter I replaced was 6 month's old. It's a pain because of so little room for movement.

Just finished changing mine today, lhs of filter was PIA to loosen even with WD40, rhs practically fell off!. I dunno when it was last changed tho because it was rusted to the support bracket, so I cleaned that up aswell and gave it a coat of anti rust gloss black before I put it all back together.
