Re: Redoing the trans

I'm liking the first one above all. Seems more complete. Anything else that was overlooked in their kits??? Probably getting a 10.5" redone to 2800rpm instead of 3K. Please post opinions. Thanks in advance!
Jr.

They are all around $600-$700 Kits

I think my trans is wiped out..?? would this be a good place to start with a $600 kit or will I wipe out another trans with parts. Im looking for some quality parts to put in the trans. whats my best option at this point?

From what little I know... If you have a stock motor and no mods, then plain rebuild will do. If you have bolt ons that actually yield performance gains, then upgrade weak parts(research). If you are making serious power, 450hp-up((serious for the 4l60 capabilities) then aftermarket unit. DYI not recommended. Pay for warranty have insurance. DYI tough luck if it fails. :2cents:

Re: Redoing the trans

I like the 3rd one, always had good luck with alto clutches and beast sun shells, but in 4L60's haven't used them in 700's, but pretty much the same guts.

I have the first kit installed in my truck right now. Used for 2 or 3k on a decent build. So far its held up with no issues. Great kit and that company has the best customer service.

Should have my new engine installed within a few weeks. We will just have to see how long the 700r can live with it.

Did they install the kit as listed or did you use any original parts such as the boost valve?
I like the clutch and steel on that one too. I'll probably order the Beast sunshell as an upgrade.

I don't think I want kolene steels. Is that list pretty accurate or are there mor parts to this kit? Doesn't mention governor gear, for example.

I did get the Beast. Call the contact number. The guy that owns the company is very helpful. I think his name is Dane.

I've never used that whole kit, just a fan of the Alto's and Beast. I have a 4L60 in a 99 Z28 that makes 780 RWHP on a 200 shot so lots of torque and have very good luck in a 3600# car 3800# with me in it running 9.7X and cutting 1.4X short times. Probably have over 200 passes on that transmission and about 4k street miles and it's held up well surprised me. I was ready to go with a 4L80 on that car if the 60 didn't hold up, but so far so good.

Hey,

I don't see the price of the third kit? Also, where do you get these kits from? I don't see that, unless I missed it.

Thanks!

Best,

I have a CK kit in my 200R4 in my Turbo regal, been in there for about 5 years with about 4-5k miles on it, hundreds of street hits and 50-60 mid 9 second track passes with no issues at all.

I think that all of the kits you posted should be good kits.

Are you going to install the full kit including the shift kits that come with the rebuild kits? I will be redoing my sy trans in the near future, but since the Sy/Ty trans comes with an Excellent valve body and good shift programming, I will not be running the shift kits or if they come with valve bodies also won't run them either.

Re: Redoing the trans

I got a good transmission from a member here. Since it is out, I thought I would take advantage of better technology and redo it using better parts. I won't be using a shift kit. My truck has minor bolts ons at this point. I am liking CK kits and will most likely get one next week. CK is very honest and well known in the Buick forums as you mentioned your having one of his 200r4 kits. The only missing ingredient is a knowledgeable transmission builder. I'm going to give a local guy the benefit of the doubt and see if he knows what he claims. Hoping to realize the savings of shipping costs if I were to have a vendor do the whole thing.

So far, $550 for the "good" transmission soon to be "better" plus I have a spare.
$550 for the labor including R&R&R-removal, rebuild and re-install
$500 for parts including fluid and upgrades

Those are approximate. I was quoted $1500-1600 from vendors just to rebuild my transmission. Extra to put it in plus the transport costs of the truck. :oops:Too rich for my blood. I'll just need a 2800 stall to complement that aspect of the drivetrain.
Turbo is rebuilt but looking at the 20G upgrade from Kinugawa. I think I will spring for that one while stuff is out.
Engine running decent at 110K+ miles-knock on wood! :D

All this is still cheaper than an "indestructible" E transmission swap.;)
