Has anyone used Gear Star Performance Transmissions?
They seem to have a great warranty and everything sounds good from their website. (which they all do) Has anyone had any experiences with these trannys and if so how is there customer service? How did the tranny hold up? Which tranny did you use and what mods to your truck?
Thanks

with so many tranny builders on this site, why would you even bother looking at a questionable outside source??

Ok so George Blake builds good trannys. As you can tell by my post I'm new to the site. Who is George Blake? Is he Prime Gear?

Re: Rebuilt Transmisson ?s

Another question. How do I know I have the original Sy tranny? Any special marks or #s?

Can I ask how everyone getting the tranny's to George or jwaller? Do most people live near them? I kind of find that hard to believe. Are transmissions that easy to ship?

Thanks!

big rubbermaid storage container with holes drilled all around the edges on top,to ziptie the lid down.Ship it DHL.

When the DHL guy asks "What's in here,a transmission?" smile and say "Yep"

It depends on where you are at. I'm in southwestern ohio. 45042 is the zip. The 700's are so small you can put them in a plastic storage bin type container and then secure the whole thing to a pallet. I have a contract with R&L carriers so I get a significant discount through them.

As far as knowing if you have a truely untouched (hard to believe at this point) trans, look at the output shaft and see if there are two lines scored around it between the governor gear and the splined end. Look at the tag (if its still there) on the bellhousing. It should say, 1LHM, 2LHM, or 3LHM (1991, 92, 93 LHM series transmissions).

Thanks I also looked at your post on the 4L80E trannys. I'm in the process of a rebuild. Its going to be a mild build (around 375hp give or take a few) Motor has stock/factory nitred crank, close as possible to stock compression (JE pistons/eagle rods) with L35 heads, and stock IC. I'm still undecided on chip and I'm not sure on the turbo yet. It wont be to wild (still in stock location) Factory exhaust manifolds 3" exhaust. It will never see the track, and just a few red light to red light jaunts to pick on the local mousestang GT college boys. I'm not sure of the torqe ratings. Which would be my best bet? Rebuild my original or go 4L80e? I am also running 3.73 gears. With 1996 17" vette (sawblade) wheels and tires. What do you think of the stock "built" tranny for this build?

Re: Rebuilt Transmisson ?s

Kinda off topic, but where'd you find 3.73's for the front?

edit: n/m...I forgot that your truck is a 4x4

Actually its not 4x4. The one I bought is complete Sy except body it has 3.42s the 3.73s came off a 94 Bravada AWD.

You can stick with the 700.

You have 3.73's front and rear, right? The way you posted makes it sound like you've got 3.42's in one and 3.73's in the other....which would fubar the transfercase.

Re: Rebuilt Transmisson ?s

I bought a wrecked/totaled Sy its 3.42. I also have a Olds Bravada with a rear mount turbo, it has factory 3.73 front and rear. I'm going to end up with the Sy motor in the bravada. Sy needs to much to get it back to a Sy. I would like to stay with the 3.73 gears. But do have the option of 3.42 with a simple axle(s) swap.

Yep it is a Sy with a 86 4x4 body on it. Everything else is Sy. Well the wheels arent Sy. But the frame and everything else is. Motor doesnt seem to have ever been into. Somebody did machine Syclone 4.3 Turbo off the intake though.
