Rear Differential (sp)

We this is my first post, I have be a luker for a while, but recently purchased Sy #205. I love the truck and had my mechanic go over the truck and a couple of things came up, which I think are drivetrain related. First the rear diff had a leak so I had him put a new seal in, he discovered that there was a hole in the diff cover and fixed it. But he noticed that the rear diff was not a posi, that somebody had the rear out and had put a non posi rear end. A am correct in that the rear was a posi correct? Second where do I get a new one and do you recommend a certain company? What size am I looking for and are the ring and pinion 3.42?

Second at about 70 miles an hour, I get a horrible vibration. I think it needs new tires, but my mechanic said this trucks are know for the lower ball joints going out and that they probably need to be replaced? Anybody else encounter this problem? It is so smooth at 60, but really gets vibrating the faster you go.

Thanks

John

as for the vibration you should have the wheels balanced .the vibration should go away around 85 ! (try explaining that one to a cop ) if it goes away the tires are out of balance

These trucks had the 7.5 10 bolt rear end with 3.42 gears and the Governor Lock differential. It isn't the best, but it works well in most of them. If you plan on modifying the truck for more power and drag racing then I recommend putting in something stronger. The only bolt in rear end that is stronger is the ZR2 4X4 S10 rear end, which is the 8.5 10 bolt. It also has the Governor Lock differntial, which is still not the best. You can have any custom built rear end that you want, such as the 8.5 10 bolt, 12 bolt, 9 inch Ford or Dana 60. The 8.5 or 12 bolt are plenty strong for even the fastest Syclone, if they are built right. If you want to keep the 7.5 that is in it now you can get a new Eaton posi and install it.
